Clwyd Reserve Division
Holywell Town Reserves 5-1 Prestatyn Rovers Reserves
Holywell Town Reserves were back in League action this afternoon
and were looking for the victory to keep pressure on Flint Town
United Youth and Shotton Steel Reserves who were above them in the
league.
The opening period of the first half was a scrappy affair and Prestatyn
Rovers were taking the game to Holywell Town and were creating the
better chances. Marc Grief was causing problems for the town's defence
and he had a couple of shots cleared by both Richard Dolphin in
the Wellmen's goal and by Danny Williams in the heart of the Wellmen's
defence.
It was Holywell Town who took the lead on 25 minutes as a neat turn
by Kallum Pierce saw him break free of his marker and from a tight
angle, he saw the keeper attempt to parry his shot away but the
power behind it saw it creep into the corner of the net. 5 minutes
later, Town were let off the hook as Rovers' James Price skipped
the challenges of the Town defence but could only shoot wide of
Dolphin's goal.
The game settled down a bit then with chances falling to both teams
but with a few minutes to go before the break, Rovers got their
deserved equaliser. Marc Grief again ran at the defence and caused
problems, and after skipping the challenge by Jack Mackie, he slotted
the ball past Dolphin into the bottom corner to ensure both teams
went in at the break on level terms.
The teams came out for the second half with all to play for and
the first chance fell to Jack Mackie who saw his shot fly over the
bar. A few minutes later, Prestatyn's James Price saw his attempted
lob go over the bar aswell. It was turning out to be a more entertaining
second half as another chance fell Holywell's way as Dwayne Durham
headed over off a Alyn Roberts cross. A minute later, Durham had
the opportunity to give the Wellmen the lead but his shot was parried
away by Darren Bannister in the Rovers goal and Alyn Roberts just
failed to connect with the shot. The next attack saw Roberts shoot
wide after being put in by Pierce.
On the hour mark, Pierce once again broke free from his marker and
ran into the box. He then knocked the ball across the box to Roberts
who again saw his shot fly over the bar. A minute later, Roberts
made amends for his earlier miss as he gave the Wellmen the lead.
A ball over the top for Roberts to chase and despite the challenge
of Rovers' Gus Steele, Roberts managed to slot the ball past the
advancing Bannister to give Town the lead. The goal gave Town the
confidence they needed and once they got their noses infront, there
was no turning back as Pierce got his second and Town's third on
70 minutes.
Prestatyn Rovers still believed they could get something out of
the game as james Price and Jake Thomas both tried their luck from
outside the box but their efforts were comfortably saved by Dolphin
in the Wellmen's goal. Town soon added a fourth as Dwayne Durham
struck a first time sht past Bannister and a few minutes later,
Sub Sean Wilkes rounded off the scoring after a through ball by
David Jones saw Wilkes hold off the challenge of Rovers' Gus Steele
to fire the ball past Bannister in the Rovers' goal.

Llansannan vs Mochdre Sports - Presidents Cup Round 2
A very even game with sanan giving sports no time on the ball to
play
some of there good passing football, the game was a midfield affair
with
the occational breakaway, arron boyle putting sports 1-0 up on 7
mins,
llansanan then laid seige on the mochdre defence eventually scoring
through lewis on 33, only to then score again with rhod williams
making it 2-1, sports pulled one back just before half time 2-2,
the
score stayed like that till full time with both teams having chances
like stefans long range effort dipping and hitting the crossbar.sports
finally taking the spoils with two goals in the first half of extra
time through danny "dynamo" jones 96 and robbie "sniffer"
knowles 99.
North Wales Coast 3 Central Wales 3
Two key decisions that went against the Coast made the difference
between 3 points and 1 point for Coast who with 7 players in Ireland
with the victory-shield Welsh squad, a credit to the talent in the
area, were already were up against it and deserve every credit.
Central started well and stronger with Kristian Jenkins in great
form so it was no surprise they went ahead in the 16th minute through
Sion Clarke, only disappointing that it was a free header at a corner.
Coast finally found the tempo of the game and for the rest of half
we're the better team and after a defence splitting pass from the
outstanding Jamie Wynne, Richard Walker ran from right back to equalise.
Chances fell to Shaun Tinsley and Mark Jones but just before the
half, against the run of play, Coast failed to clear the ball deep
in their half, which eventually fell to Central's Elliott Jones
who hit a brilliant 20 yard curler to put Central back in front.
The second half started much better for Coast as they dominated
the game and with Jones a constant threat up front, it was only
a matter of time before an equaliser came which it did through an
excellent finish again from Walker. Fifteen minutes from time came
the first major decision as Jones raced through from a great ball
from Declan Thomas, Jones rounded Central's keeper Liam Button who
clearly brought him down. A penalty was rightly awarded however
Button was not sent off and this would prove costly later in the
game. Jones finished the penalty to put Coast in front for the first
time but just two minutes later Jones hit a long range drive destined
for the top right corner when Button pulled off an unbelievable
save to keep central in the game. Whether he should have even been
there to do so is debatable. With just 4 minutes left the second
big decision was to cost Cost the points when a Central long ball
was chased by Clarke, Coast keeper Ryan Thomas slid down to collect
and appeared to clearly have the ball in his hands when Clarke slid
into him hard. The ball ran loose and Jake Parr was on hand to slip
into the empty net. A disappointing and frustrating end to the game
for Coast, who with so many players missing, deserved the points
but gave a great performance to be proud of in an eventful game.

Betws-yn-Rhos v FC Nomads
Saturday 12th Feb 2011

Nomads made are positive start to the game creating a few early
chances, notably Dave Gleave driving the ball just wide following
a run leaving three defenders in his wake. The deadlock was broken
midway through the first when Lee Molyneux , dropping deeper picked
up the ball and turned to hit a 40 yard pass into the path of Mike
Hopkinson who held off his marker and converted from close range.
The home side had a few opportunities when the attackers got goal
side of the Nomads defence but lacked the composure to test keeper
Craig Williams. Molyneux soon got himself onto the score sheet rifling
home a loose ball inside the box. Nomads were starting to find their
rhythm now with the influential Gleave pulling the strings. Kevin
Smart put nomads three up on 40 minutes being on hand to finish
off a spell of good pressure from the away team.
After the break Betws seemed to have been rejuvenated and were picking
up all the second ball and starting to give nomads some problems,
however normal service was soon resumed when Chris Taylor Rose at
the back post to knock down for Smart to acrobatically volley through
a crowd of bodies. This certainly ended hope the home team might
of had of a comeback and now it was all Nomads pressure. The fifth
goal came when Molyneux used his strength to turn his defender in
the box and drive home. Gleave finally got the goal he deserved
as the home side struggling to clear the ball only managed to find
the nomads man of the match who scored from the edge of the box.
It looked like the game would finish that way until Dave Smith played
a poor ball to Dave Johnson with two men on him across the backline
and Betws got their consolation. The way Nomads played at times
is hopefully an indication they are getting back to their best.

North Wales Coast Under 18's 4 North East Wales Under 18's 2
In an excellent game of football both teams were a credit to themselves
in what were very difficult conditions to play in. Chris Morrell's
young Coast team started with the wind behind them and got off to
a flier as after only 2 minutes, man of the match Jamie McDaid got
in on the blind side of NEW left back Will Bowman to strike across
keeper Josh Atkin open the scoring. Within five minutes a great
finish from Mark Jones put Coast two up and a cricket score looked
on the cards. More pressure meant chances for Jones, Ben Hoult and
Jay Gibbs drawing good saves from Atkin but Coast then became a
little casual and allowed NEW back into the game. To their credit
NEW began to pass the ball well which resulted in Niall Challinor
pulling one back with a fantastic finish on 32 minutes. The half
ended with the game finally balanced and NEW must have fancied their
chances with the second half wind with them, however the Coast defence
marshaled by Ollie Jones and Dan Doyle stood firm to everything
and on 58 minutes, a great break involving Ryan Jones and Rhys Owen,
led to Mcdaid running half the length of the pitch to finish cooly.
Coast began to play the better football with ex Tranmere Rovers
starlet Jay Gibbs beginning to have an influence as more chances
fell to Jones and Mcdaid. With fifteen to go, NEW threw everything
forward and after a couple of scrambles and a great save from Coast
custodian Ryan Roberts, NEW forced the ball home from a free kick
to set up a grandstand finish, however the expected onslaught did
not materialise and McDaid broke away again on 89 minutes to cap
a great performance and settle the tie in Coasts favour. Both teams
looked to play great football with some really good young talent
on display.

Sychdyn 2 Rhuddlan Town 1
Chances missed for town was the story of the day at Sychdyn in a
game where they really should have took all the points. Town started
as they finished at Shotton the week previous, creating chance after
chance but they were not taken and eventually Town paid the price.
Gari Thomas twice, Nathan Smith, Shaun Jones and Craig Warner all
went close while Gavin O'Keefe twice hit the bar and he and Kyle
Parry had decent claims for a penalty as Town camped out in the
Sychdyn half. The breakthrough eventually came with an excellent
30 yard strike from O'Keefe on 31 mins, however the expected onslaught
didn't materialise and Sychdyn finished the half strongly and on
42 mins an powerful header from Liam Robinson gave Sychdyn and equaliser
and major lift before the half. The second half started more evenly
with both teams having opportunities but on 73mins a Sychdyn free
kick on the edge of box fired in went in off Craig Warner for an
o.g to take a Sychdyn lead. Town threw caution and pushed hard with
McGuniess having one cleared off the line, Thomas bringing two good
saves from Andy Watton and Steve Jones hitting the bar from a 25
yard drive. Sychdyn hung on to claim the points with town left to
rue the missed chances.

Shotton Steel 1 Rhuddlan Town 6
After the bruising encounter with Brynford last week, Town put
in their best performance of the season at a good, competitive young
Shotton Steel side, who battled till the end. With the strong wind
behind town in the first half, they created chance after chance
and the only surprise was they didn't score more. Good work from
Nathan Smith, then Damo Ketley put in Niall Mcguniess for the opener
on just 6 mins. Smith then scored with a neat, poachers finish to
increase the lead on 11 mins followed by Mcguiness scoring direct
from a corner on 23 mins. Chances fell to Sion Jones, Gavin O'Keefe,
Ben Roberts and a bag full to Ketley who had two disallowed, hit
the bar and was desperate to score against his old team, but the
ball just wouldn't go in. All credit to Shotton who began to settle
and a great finish 5 mins before the half from Carl Wright, gave
them fresh hope for the second half. The first ten mins saw Shotton
come on strong with the wind behind but Town weathered this and
began to dominate again and on 60 mins, Jones scored to effectively
end the game. Smith then scored a brilliant solo effort which was
closely followed by the classy O'Keefe latching on to a John Ridings
pass to complete the scoring. With the back four outstanding and
driven on by Jones and O'Keefe in the middle, town played some excellent
football but Shotton too played some good stuff, in what was very
difficult conditions for both sides.

Division One
CPD Llannefydd 2 FC Nomads 6
FC Nomads travelled to Llannefydd for this Clwyd League Division
One game hoping to continue putting pressure on the teams above
who have played more games. FC Nomads were looking for their 27th
win in a row in the league.
It took just 9 minutes for FC Nomads to open the scoring when a
cross by Kyle Reid was met by the head of Danny Wynne to make it
1-0. The first half never really got into any rhythm but FC Nomads
had the majority of the play leaving Craig Williams in the Nomads
goal with not a lot to do. A few chances went begging for Nomads
and it seemed as if it'd be one of those days when the half time
whistle went and it was just 1-0.
The second half started brighter as both teams started to play
some football, FC Nomads still looked the most dangerous with more
chances coming and going with no reward until the hour mark when
a ball through by substitute Dave Parsonage found in form Danny
Wynne who turned two defenders before slotting the ball in the net.
With one of Llannefydd's first chances of the game they capitalised
putting the ball into an empty net following a rare error at the
back for Nomads, on 65 minutes they pulled a goal back and all of
a sudden it was game on and Llannefydd had some belief. That belief
was dented just 3 minutes later when Kyle Reid took a shot from
the corner of the area which took a wicked deflection to find its
way into the back of the net to give FC Nomads a 3-1 lead. Danny
Wynne completed his hat trick in the 75th minute when he hit a tremendous
shot which gave the keeper no chance to make it 4-1. Having been
on a mini scoring streak recently, Dave Parsonage got in on the
act to make it 5-1 with a strike on the half volley just 3 minutes
later. FC Nomads piled on the pressure as they went in search of
more goals but were undone in the 90th minute by a goal kick that
found an unmarked striker who put the ball in the back of the net
to make it 5-2. Just before the final whistle Danny Wynne rounded
off his man of the match performance by heading in a Kev Smart pass
to make the final score CPD Llannefydd 2 FC Nomads 6.

NWCFA Junior Cup Round 3
FC Nomads 7 Caernarfon Borough 2
FC Nomads win through to the Quarter Finals of the NWCFA Cup with
an impressive 7-2 win against Caernarfon Borough. FC Nomads have
now scored 26 goals in 3 games in this competition.
A match that started of as a tough affair between two very strong
teams ended in a 7-2 win for FC Nomads. The early goal, so aften
a trademark of FC Nomads was this time scored by Caernarfon as Steve
Hughes beat the offside trap on 9 minutes to give Caernarfon an
early lead. The equaliser came in the 37th minute when Lee Molynuex
got on the end of a corner to beat the keeper with a header. That
was the way it stayed until half time and both managers thought
that the game was going to go to the wire.
Caernarfon took the lead again in the 62nd minute when Craig Williams
bought down the Caernarfon striker and the referee pointed to the
penalty spot. Stuart Tindale made no mistake with the spot kick
and gave Caernarfon a 2-1 lead. Just 3 minutes later substitute
and man of the match Kev Smart hit the bar with a superb free kick
and Chris Taylor was on hand to head the rebound into the net to
make it 2-2. Caernarfon then found themselves on the back foot when
just 2 minutes later Kev Smart took another shot which the keeper
could not hold allowing Lee Molyneux to get his 2nd of the game
and give FC Nomads the lead for the first time. The game then closed
up again as Caernarfon looked for an equaliser, this didn't come,
instead in the final 7 minutes FC Nomads lay seige on the Caernarfon
goal and 4 goals in the final few minutes. In the 83rd minute Kyle
Reid knowcked the ball into the area for Lee Molyneux to control
the ball with his chest, knock it over the defenders head and smash
the ball into the net for what was the goal of the game and possibly
one of the goals of the season. Shades of Gazza in '96 sprang to
mind. In the 85th minute it was 5-2 in a comedy moment when the
goalkeeper rolled the ball out to clear the ball not realising that
Kev Smart was still behind him, Smart came from behind and took
the ball before slotting it into an empty net. In 4 minutes we had
two contrasting goals from the sublime to a 'you've been framed'
moment. On 88 minutes a through ball by Mike Hopkinson (or perhaps
a hopeful shunt up field according to Dave Smith) found Lee Molyneux
on the half way line, he then ran the length of the half into the
box before cooly slotting the ball home to make it 6-2. The final
goal of the game came in the 90th minute when Dave Parsonage was
being hounded by the keeper and a defender, he managed to beat them
both, leaving them in a heap on the floor before scoring a close
range effort. The final score was FC Nomads 7 Caernarfon Borough
2, a scoreline that perhaps didn't reflect the game as a whole but
in football it those teams that can manage the entire 90 minutes
who end up successful. FC Nomads now face tough trip to Trearddur
Bay for a quarter final tie.
Saturday 6th November 2010
Presidents Cup Round One
Rhyl Athletic 2 FC Nomads 5
Despite an early scare FC Nomads comfortably made it through to
the 2nd round of the Presidents Cup.
In the 3rd minute a lapse of concentration at the back by FC Nomads
let in Rhyl Athletic to take an early lead in this match. However
FC Nomads hit straight back within a minute when a magnificant 40
yard curling shot from Gary Jones beat the Rhyl keeper to bring
FC Nomads level. The game was scrappy with mistakes being made by
both sides and some heavy tackling that spoilt the game somewhat.
In the 22nd minute FC Nomads took a deserved lead when Carl Thomas
played a lovely ball into the box for Thomas Coghill to get on the
end of and slot home. That was the way it stayed until half time
with FC Nomads leading 2-1.
The 2nd half started brighter, with FC Nomads able to play a bit
more football and were getting forward a lot more leaving Rhyl to
rely on counter attacks. Three minutes into the 2nd half Gary Jones
played a ball to Thomas Coghill who from the edge of the area let
fly with a great strike to make the score 3-1. The tackling became
a lot more desperate by Rhyl with some late challenges being noticed
by the referee as he tried to calm the game down. In the 77th minute
Carl Thomas played another great ball in, this time for Danny Wynne
who headed past the stranded Rhyl keeper to make it 4-1. Rhyl pulled
a goal back in the 83rd minute. Any hope they had of a late comeback
were put to bed when substitute Dean Duncan played a ball through
to Dave Parsonage who scored the 5th and final goal of the day in
the 90th minute.
FC Nomads go through to the 2nd round of the Presidents cup. Next
week FC Nomads entertain Caernarfon Borough in the NWCFA Cup 3rd
Round.
Tom Coghill (shown in last weeks match) scorer of two goals.

Barritt Cup
Rhuddlan Town 3 Mochdre Sports 2
In a role reversal of the league game two weeks, ago, Town ran out
winners by 3 goals to 2 in hard fought Barritt Cup tie over Mochdre.
With 9 players missing from Towns first team squad this was always
going to be a tough task but also an opportunity to blood some youngsters
in Niall McGuniess, Ben Pament and Luke Binns who all did well when
called upon. Town started strongly with Karl Evans dominant in midfield
and after creating plenty of chances and on 36 a cross from McGiness
came back off the bar and fell kindly for Craig Warner to smash
home. The game was end to end and good pressure from Mochdre told
after town failed to clear a cross the ball found Dominic Birdsall
to equalise. With the game approaching the half a foul on Kyle Parry
in the area led to Damo Ketley putting town back in lead on 45 mins.
The second half was a tough battle with both teams competing well
however the killer goal came in the 57th minute when Damo Ketley
scored his 8th goal in six games with a crisp finish. Both teams
continued to push for a goal and chances for both sides came and
went but it wasn't until injury time that Mochdre's Birdsall again
broke through to score with virtually the last kick the game. All
in all a good cup tie and both teams deserve credit.
Division One
FC NOMADS WIN CLASH OF THE TITANS
FC NOMADS 1 POINT OF AYR 0
FC Nomads won the Clwyd League 'Battle of the Giants' and are now
the only remaining team in Division One who have a 100% record.
As predicted this was a tight game from start to finish with nothing
to choose between the teams in the first half with both teams finding
it difficult to break down the defences. FC Nomads were the first
team to find a way through when Lee Molynuex only had the Point
of Ayr keeper to beat but the keeper was in outstanding form and
pulled of a great stop to deny Molyneux the chance to open the scoring
in the first ten minutes. The rest of the half was fought in the
middle of the park with very few chances for either team. Point
of Ayr's top scorer Darren Hughes (38 goals in 11 games this season)
received the ball on a couple of occasions but couldn't get past
the resolute Neil Boden at centre half. Towards the end of the half
the Point of Ayr keeper was put under pressure a couple of times
from pinpoint corners delivered by Kyle Reid, but the keeper yet
again remained strong to keep the scores level. It was clear that
in the first half neither team wanted to loose this match and both
defences were in top form. The half time score was FC Nomads 0 Point
of Ayr 0
The second half began with FC Nomads making a change as Paul Hynes
made way for new signing Dave Gleave to make his debut. This had
immediate effect as Gleave began to pair up well with Chris Taylor
on the left and was running at the Point of Ayr defence and started
to deliver some telling crosses. FC Nomads were beginning to get
the better of this game but still found Point of Ayr difficult to
break down, especially the keeper who was in fine form. In the 67th
minute the breakthrough finally came as Lee Molyneux got the ball
just outside the area and threaded a neat through ball to the feet
of Dave Parsonage, who managed to hold off the defenders challenge
and power the ball into the net past a helpless keeper. The importance
of this match was clear as the celebrations were similar to that
of a cup final, and Point of Ayr's disappointment was clear to see.
Shortly after this goal the Point of Ayr keeper who had such an
outstanding game went down following a clash and had to be substituted
with a mild concussion. Thankfully at the end of the game he seemed
ok, if a little bit dazed. Point of Ayr then started to try and
put pressure on the Nomads team in order to rescue the game, however
FC Nomads looked more likely to add to their tally with some powerful
counter attacks. Nomads had a few free kicks to deal with on the
edge of the area toward the end of the game but Craig Williams kept
a clean sheet and became the first goalkeeper to deny both Point
of Ayr and Darren Hughes from scoring this season.
www.fcnomads.co.uk like to give a man of the match but today we
are going to give it to three players Neil Boden for being the only
defender in the league to keep the prolific Darren Hughes at bay,
Kyle Reid for some excellent work at full back and some perfect
corners and Danny Wynne for his constant battling to try and carve
out an opening for FC Nomads. It was one of those days when it would
be nice to give man of the match to the whole team and a few of
the opposition as well.
Following the game we spoke with FC Nomads manager Dave Johnson
who had this to say about todays game, I am very happy
with todays result and performance. The professionalism and
discipline of the players was outstanding as they did everything
asked of them. We had the utmost respect for Point of Ayrs
run of results this season as they had brushed everyone they have
played aside with ease, so we treated them with the respect they
deserved. We started the game with a more defensive midfield than
we would normally use, asking the midfielders to get at the Point
of Ayr players and wear down that spirit that their 9 match winning
run had given them. We knew by doing that we could change our style
of play for the 2nd half and set up in a more attacking way. The
team already knew the changes that would be made at half time and
early in the 2nd half with Dave Gleave and Jamie McConnell coming
on to add more potency to the attack. Our plan worked today and
that is down to the players doing everything I asked of them. The
win is testament to the strength of this squad and the ability to
apply themselves to the objectives they are asked to perform. A
great result, I am made up.
Both FC Nomads and Point of Ayr can be proud of putting on a magnificent
performance full of heart and character. It was a great game to
watch and they both did the league proud. Judging by todays
match, both these teams will be in the hunt at the end of the season.
FC Nomads have now won 26 league games in a row, never having dropped
a point since they were formed prior to the 2009/10 season. A winning
run spanning two seasons. Point of Ayr had themselves won 9 out
of 9 league games this season and had scored a massive 52 goals
in the process. It would take something special to stop that run
and today they met that something special
..FC Nomads of Connahs
Quay.
Saturday 23rd October 2010
Division One
FC Nomads 8 Y Glannau 2
FC Nomads entertained 3rd place Y Glannau today in the Clwyd League
Division 1. Whilst FC Nomads were aiming for their 25th league win
in 25 games since being formed in the summer of 2009, Y Glannau
themselves were hoping to extend their winning run to 5 games.
The game started brightly for FC Nomads who should have been 4 goals
ahead inside the first 5 minutes, hitting the post twice, having
one cleared off the line and a close range miss. The first goal
wasn't long in coming as the pressure paid off in the 5th minute
when a Kyle Reid corner was met by Lee Molyneux to put FC Nomads
1 goal up. The football being played in this first period by Nomads
was sublime at times with crisp passing and wonderful one touch
football that wouldn't have looked out of place in a Premier League
game. The 2nd goal came in the 25th minute when Kyle Reid, involved
again, launched a long throw to Kevin Smart who headed the ball
on to Lee Molyneux who made no mistake and made it 2-0. The game
looked like it would only go one way at this point as the quality
difference between the two sides was massive. However we all know
in football that anything can happen and it did just before half
time as from 40 yards out Dilwyn Jones curled a shot into the top
corner of the Nomads net to bring the score back to 2-1 and change
the half time team talk for the FC Nomads manager Dave Johnson.
The 2nd half started with Y Glannau looking a little more dangerous
having taken confidence from pulling a goal back but their spell
didn't last long as in the 57th minute Ross Hardstaffe was on the
left wing and played a cross in that cleared everyone including
the Y Glannau keeper and found it's way into the net, Ross will
claim he ment it but the grin on his face after scoring told a different
story. The floodgates then opened for FC Nomads as just 3 minutes
later Mike Hopkinson got onto the end of a long ball and turned
the last defender before cooly slotting the ball past the Y Glannau
keeper. In the 62nd minute Lee Molyneux achieved his hat trick after
being in the right place to receive a through ball and was able
to beat the keeper with a low hard shot. In the 68th minute Lee
Molyneux was again involved, this time starting the move with a
pin point cross field ball to Mike hopkinson who crossed low into
the six yard area for Gary Jones to slot the ball home from close
range. Y Glannau were given a little hope in the 75th minute when
the pulled a goal back to make it 6-2 but any thoughts of a comeback
were put to bed just 2 minutes later when Lee Molyneux got on the
end of yet another measured cross by Kyle Reid to score his 4th
and FC Nomads 7th. There was still more to come when in the final
minute Gary Jones was fouled in the area and the referee pointed
straight to the spot. Who else to take the penalty but Lee Molyneux
looking for his 5th goal in this game and he made sure of FC Nomads
impressive victory by placing the ball in the back of the net to
make the final score FC Nomads 8 Y Glannau 2.
This was an impressive performance in which FC Nomads played some
of the best football seen since they were formed in 2009. A great
way to hit that milestone of 25 wins in a row.
Saturday 16th October 2010
Premier Division
Rhuddlan Town 7 Caerwys 1
After recent poor performances Town got back to winning ways with
a good cup win at Pengwern College. With 5 centre backs out injured
and other changes in the team, Rhuddlan started brightly and within
9 minutes Damo Ketley headed home after an excellent cross from
Karl Evans. Evans along with left back John Ridings provided quality
cross after cross and the only surprise was that the second goal
took so long in coming when on the 39th minute an unbelievable strike
from Jack Williams took town to half time at 2.0. Again town started
well and a minute into the second half Ketley scored his second
to all likely end the tie, however Caerwys didn't give in and had
a strong spell where Gaz Henley scored after a mistake from a Caerwys
corner and possibly could have had another before a quick town break
saw Gari Thomas net on 54 mins. With town in total control Ketley
went on to complete his hat-trick, his 6th league goal in four starts
and Thomas added his second in the 77th minute with Nathan Smith
scoring the goal of the day last on 83 minutes with a screamer.
A decent day for town but much stiffer tests to follow.

Mochdre Sports 3 Rhuddlan Town 2 (report#1)
After winning six on the run, town fell to their third defeat in
a row in the league against a strong, hard working Mochdre team.
Losing three centre halves, one in the warm up and one within the
first five mins certainly didn't help the course but a lack lustre
performance from town coupled with facing a quality side like Mochdre,
was the real story of the game. Town actually started well and after
24 mins, a penalty awarded against Steffan Whiteley, was finished
by Mike Roose however then Town stopped the work rate and Mochdre
ended the half strongly with chances falling for Danny Jones and
Glyn Knowles but the half ended with town still up. The second half
began with schoolboy defending from Town which allowed Danny Jones
to equalise within a minute straight from a long throw in and then
two identical free kicks from Mochdres Whiteley in the 60th and
63rd min, disappointingly beat custodian Jay Roberts but it was
no more than Mochdre deserved, indeed they could of extended their
lead as Rhuddlan became scappy and disheartened. The game was virtually
over when Town were awarded another penalty again finished by Roose,
incredibly his 8th penalty success of his 11 goals, but it was too
little too late and Mochdres win was no more than they deserved.
Mochdre Sports 3 Rhuddlan Town 2 (report#2)
Another good win in front of a good crowd, mochdre
started the game at a fast pace with end to end play rhuddlan were
awarded a pen but only after the player had got his shot of and
missed,
mike roose taking the spot kick and put rhuddlan one up the score
stayed that way till half time, from the kick off danny jones scored
from a close range header, this spured mochdre on and from two superb
free kicks from stef whiteley mochdre were 3-1 up.
superb defending by
robbo and stef kept rhuddlan at bay until the ref awarded another
pen
for what seemed a perfect tackle to clear the ball, mike roose stepped
up to put the ball past carlos for a second but mochdre held on
to take
all three points.

Stef Whitley's 20 yard free kick beats the Rhuddlan
keeper Jay Roberts.

REM Jones Cup Round 1
FC Nomads progressed through to the 2nd round of the REM Jones
Cup (League Cup) on Saturday with a convincing 4-1 win over Betws-yn-Rhos.
The game started at electric pace with FC Nomads attacking the
Betws goal from the off, in the 2nd minute Lee Molyneux was pulled
down inside the box on route to the goal and the referee had no
option but to point to the spot. Lee Molyneux stepped up to take
the penalty himself and gave FC Nomads an important early lead.
The game was then all FC Nomads with the Betws keeper pulling off
some great saves to keep the score at 1-0. In the 24th minute Gary
Jones hit the crossbar from 8 yards out, Kev Smart followed up and
himself hit the crossbar, the ball fell back to Gary Jones who made
no mistake in putting the ball into the back of the net, only this
time the luck was on the Betws side as the goal was ruled out for
offside. Six minutes later Lee Molyneux found himself with the ball
on the right side of the box and put in a low, hard cross which
was met by Gary Jones who cooly put the ball into the net to give
FC Nomads a 2-0 lead. The game was more or less put to bed three
minutes later when a through ball by Kevin Smart put Gary Jones
1 on 1 with the keeper with Gary Jones winning that battle to score
his 2nd and Nomads 3rd. This was the score at half time with FC
Nomads taking a convincing 3-0 lead into the break.
The second half was more of the same from FC Nomads, however just
2 minutes into the half Betws-yn-Rhos hit back with a 30 yard shot
by Chris Littler to give a bit of hope to the away side. During
half time the website editor recieved a message from a 'News of
the World' reporter via Facebook saying that it was a good half
time score but he hoped it wouldn't end up like the Man City v Spurs
match a few years ago when a 3-0 half time lead was overhauled to
3-4. Could this prove to be a preminition? Following on from the
shock of a goal for Betws, FC Nomads went straight back on the attack
and had numerous chances to sew the game up, Gary Jones missing
out on his hat trick from a couple of yards out just one of the
many opportunities for Nomads. The fears of a comeback were laid
to rest in the 70th minute when Mike Hopkinson recieved the ball
35 yards out and shot brilliantly past the Betws keeper to make
the score 4-1. That is how it stayed until the end.
In the match preview on this website we worked out that FC Nomads
would score 3.9 goals and Betws would score 1.45 goals, those numbers
rounded come to FC Nomads 4 Betws-yn-Rhos 1, so maths does have
a use after all.
Another great victory for FC Nomads as they chase more silverware
this season.

FAW Trophy Round 2
Llanidloes 2 FC Nomads 1
(photo - Danny Wynne celebrates scoring)

FC Nomads' FAW Trophy adventure came to an end at Spar Mid Wales
high flyers Llanidloes Town. Llanidloes Town had shown how strong
they were by beating Cymru Alliance side Ruthin recently and they
also beat Bow Street 5-0 during the week, the significance of that
last result for FC Nomads is that Bow Street knocked Lex XI out
of the Welsh Cup. FC Nomads knew that they would be underdogs for
a change and travelled to Llanidloes with no pressure. There was
a good attendance for the game with around 100 supporters watching
from this impressive ground. The early exchanges were end to end
with Mike Hopkinson going close for Nomads and Craig Williams having
to pull off a magnificant save and that wasn't the only top class
save of the afternoon from Craig as he gained applause from both
sets of supporters for a couple more later in the game. The first
half an hour was just shaded by Llanidloes but the ball spent a
lot of the time in the air and in the low sun it was difficult for
FC Nomads to get the ball down playing against the sun. Carl Thomas
was in fine form at the back for FC Nomads, making some excellant
tackles. The first goal came in the 43rd minute when the referee
gave a penalty to Llanidloes against Ian Swindell for handball despite
the fact he was obviously protecting his face as the ball arrived
straight for his nose at a rate of knots. It certainly wasn't deliberate
but that is a grey area in the laws of the game, some refs would
not give it and some do, unfortunatley this game had a ref that
does give them. The penalty was struck with power giving Craig Williams
no chance even though he dived the right way. That is how it stayed
until the end of the 1st half and over all it was a close affair
with the sides seperated by a controversial penalty.
The second half began at a very fast pace with FC Nomads starting
to attack more and they were rewarded just 3 minutes into the half
when Lee Molyneux got into the area and was tackled after finding
himself surrounded by three defenders, fortunatly the ball fell
nicely for Danny Wynne to volley the ball home and equalise for
FC Nomads. The lead didn't last for long though as in the 51st minute
a rare defensive mistake by FC Nomads gifted the Llanidloes striker
with a 1 on 1 chance against Craig Williams, the Llanidloes striker
made no mistake and made it 2-1. The final 20 minutes was frantic
as FC Nomads searched for an equaliser, even having a penalty claim
turned down for a tackle in the box. Despite a lot of late pressure
on the Llanidloes goal, FC Nomads couldn't find a way to break down
the Llanidloes defence and the final score was Llanidloes 2 FC Nomads
1. Even though we were defeated, we showed that we are at that standard
now and to go so close to a team who have beaten some higher placed
sides themselves the FC Nomads team can be proud of themselves.

Rhuddlan Town 2 Abergele Rovers 3
Assisted by an abysmal first half Rhuddlan performance, Abergele
proved worthy winners and showed why they are the current champions.
Right from the kick off Gele were much stronger and competitive
and it paid off after only five mins when a ball went through the
town defence for Jack Lloyd-Williams to score with ease. With Alan
Jones pulling the strings, Gele dominated control of the ball and
it was inevitable that the lead was extended after more poor defending
following a Gele corner which led to Lloyd-Williams scoring his
second. To cap an awful first half for Town, Jones then scored himself
to seemingly put an end to the game. In fairness Town came out a
different side in the second half and at last began to put some
pressure on the Gele goal and after a few missed chances, Damo Ketley
scored his second in two games to bring Town back into the game
with a well taken header on 60 mins. Gele still had great possession
and a flowing move saw Danny Campbell just shoot wide and the excellent
James Davies cause constant trouble but another goal from Towns
Mike Roose on 75mins then put the game in the balance. Gele lost
a little discipline and then had two players sent off but they hung
on to deservedly take the points in what was a match they were excellent
throughout.

St. Asaph 4 Rhuddlan Town 1
A bad day at the office for Rhuddlan Town in a game that St. Asaph
deserved to win albeit after a wonder show from the city keeper
Jamie Jones. A terrible first half performance from Town allowed
St. Asaph to take charge of the game and a strike from Rod Hastie
was the difference between the teams at half time. the second half
was an onslaught from town in which Jones made several incredible
saves to keep Asaph in the lead and this was extended when a break
away led to Steve Williams scoring after 50 mins. The pressure increased
on St. Asaph but they stood up to all that town could offer and
after a succession of town corners, they broke away for Duncan Migley
to score, although there was serious debate in whether the ball
was kept in play prior to the goal. The game was effectively beyond
towns reach and when the impressive Damien Ketley had a great effort
hit the inside of the post then Tom Roberts had a header cleared
of the line and another wonder Jamie Jones save kept somehow keep
town out the writing was on the wall but eventually a great strike
from Ketkey was followed by another 'against the run' of play, break
way goal from Asaph. Their effort and hard work certainly deserved
the points in what was a poor town performance.

Division One
FC Nomads Slay Dragons
FC Nomads 4 Mostyn Dragons 2
A second half fight back gave FC Nomads all three points on Saturday.
Mostyn were one of only two teams to beat FC Nomads last season,
on that day it was a 2-3 extra time defeat in the NWCFA Cup. Mostyn
came into this game full of confidence and started the better of
the two teams, passing the ball well and they took advantage of
the Nomads 3-5-2 formation by having two wide players in free space
for a lot of the first half.
Mostyn's reward for starting well was a goal on 22 minutes by David
McCully. It wasn't looking good for FC Nomads as they were being
outplayed, a huge contrast to recent games. In the 40th minute a
long range shot by Mostyn's Kieron Griffiths gave them a 2-0 lead
going into half time. Soon after this goal the FC Nomads manager,
Dave Johnson changed the formation to 4-4-2, you could immediately
see the difference as FC Nomads pushed hard to reduce the deficit
in the final few minutes of the first half.
As the 2nd half began the flow of the game changed dramatically
as FC Nomads began to dominate, hitting the post and passing much
better. It looked for a while as if Mostyn would take this game
as luck didn't seem to be on Nomads side. Eventually in the 62nd
minute Lee Molynuex had a shot saved but Jamie McConnell was on
hand to turn the ball into the net to make it 1-2. FC Nomads luck
changed as in the 67th minute Lee Molynuex got on the end of a pinpoint
cross by Kyle Reid to equalise. All of a sudden Mostyn looked nervous
for the first time in the game but another twist was to come when
Ian Swindell bought a Mostyn player down in the box and the referee
pointed to the spot. giving Mostyn a chance to retake the lead with
just 12 minutes remaining, however the penalty was saved by Craig
Williams.
FC Nomads again hit the post and it looked increasingly like they
would drop their first league points ever. In the 87th minute Dave
Smith volleyed the ball into the Mostyn net following a save by
the Mostyn keeper, Nomads now had a slender but important lead at
3-2. The referee signalled five minutes of time added on which was
met with a gasp from the Nomads bench but they needn't of worried
becuase deep into injury time Danny Wynne got onto the end of a
Lee Molynuex cross to make the score 4-2. That's how it stayed until
the end and FC Nomads picked up their 23rd league win in a row.

Rhos United 1 Rhuddlan Town 2
This top of the table clash was always going to be tough for both
teams and so it proved with a hard fought game. Both teams showed
good character and at times played good football in tricky conditions.
Town started the better however Rhos got more into the game and
after 15 minutes, Edward Haley raced through to put Utd in the lead.
The game was pretty much end to end and on 23 mins, a foul on Mike
Roose led to a well-taken penalty from Ben Roberts levelling the
scores. Town probably then just shaded the rest of the half and
made it count when Martin Halewood scored what turned out to be
the winner two minutes before half time. Both teams huffed and puffed
in the second half with neither really creating many clear cut chances
and Town hung on to take the 3 points to stay top.

Aston Park Rangers 0 Rhuddlan Town 5
With several players missing it was always going to be a tough ask
for Rhuddlan to keep their run going but Town managed it despite
not being at their best. On a very difficult pitch and with Aston
fighting for every ball, Town did start well and created chances
for Martin Halewood, Sean Burrows and Nathan Smith before Mike Roose
fired them ahead on 15 mins which he soon followed with his second
on 32 mins, after good work from Halewood, to end the half two up.
The game itself was pretty scrappy and at the start of the second
half Aston began well with regular goals scorer Anthony Weaver causing
trouble but Town were settled by an excellent right foot drive from
Dean Moss which rounded of an good passing move. Young Smith began
to see a lot of the ball on the right and linked well with Kyle
Parry and after a great ball from Roose put Gari Thomas in to finish
sharply in the 76 min, the game was pretty much over. Parry was
then hauled down for Roose to complete his hat trick in the 85th
min. Town will certainly have to play better during the course of
the season and are just happy to come away from a difficult tie
against Aston, who once they find their full team, will surely begin
to pick up points.

Caerwys 3 Aston Park Rangers 1
Caerwys were worthy winners in this league encounter. The first
half was evenly balanced but Andy Swann and Richard Mike Jones should
have put the home team ahead when well placed to score. After the
break it was a similar story but livewire Gareth Rush scored one
of the best goals seen in ages when on the hour he curled in a beauty
from 20 yds out which no keeper would have got to as it went in
off the stancheon. A determined run from Wayne Shill down the right
wing saw him dispossess the defender and his low cross was finished
by sub Simon Mackie. Rangers pulled one back with a well executed
free kick after 75 mis but a minute later a mazy run by Gareth Henley
set up Neil Greenough for a deserved third. Greenough was upended
in the box moments later but skipper Mike Henley's effort flew over
the bar never to be seen again. Another good performance from Caerwys
with Mike Henley, Jim Jelleyman and local youngster Tom Smith all
fighting for the Man of the Match award.
Rhuddlan Town 6 Brynford United 1
Despite the scoreline, Town had a problem today with finishing off
chances! An unusually quiet Brynford team could have been on the
end of a cricket score had Town been more lethal. Once again after
a good start from and an early Tom Roberts goal, Town took their
foot off the peddle and were sluggish at times and paid the price
through a great Shane Francis free-kick after 12 mins to level the
tie, as Brynford came into the game with some good football. The
game became a little scrappy but several good chances still fell
towns way, particularly a Martin Halewood effort but these were
all squandered although after good work from Sean Burrows, Dean
Moss managed a fine back post header to put Town in front at the
half. The second half was much better with Town moving the ball
faster and sharper and thus began creating chances at will. A 63rd
min Mike Roose penalty on settled any nerves then within a minute
Roose scored towns forth and completed his hat trick just 7 minutes
later with a great poachers volley after good work from Moss. Roose
then turned provider for Halewood to complete the scoring in the
72nd minute. To their credit Brynford kept plugging away which will
stand them in good stead for the rest of the season, particularly
at their home ground.

Caerwys 1 Rhuddlan Town 2
Town continued their good start to the season but we're lucky to
come away with the points after a poor first half performance in
which they were second best to a willing Caerwys team. Town had
the perfect start with Tom Roberts dominant header putting them
ahead after only five mins, however Town became far too casual and
Caerwys stepped it up to take control of the game. Nick Voyle, Gareth
Henley and Wayne Shill all had chances before Henley equalised after
good work down the right wing. Caerwys could have gone further ahead
but the teams went in level and after some harsh half time words,
Town came out with a new attitude and began to get to grips with
the game. Pressure mounted and resulted in Town forcing a penalty
after a foul on John Jones which was finished by Mike Roose. For
the remaining 30 mins the game was to and fro with Voyle having
a header cleared off the line and at the other end Jon Ridings having
a great chance to finish the game for town. A really hard fought
win for Town although Caerwys perhaps deserved more.

Glan Conwy 5 Flint Town United 3
A thrilling 1st half which saw Glan Conwy go 2 up after 9 mins
through Bobby Tudor, then the 2nd coming from Costa Yianni on 16
mins. It was end to end with chances being created by both teams,
but Flint never gave up and after 30 mins Mark Williams headed home
from a corner kick, Flint now back in the game looked threatening, then
on 43 mins last seasons top goalscorer Lee Acott gave Flint the
equaliser and his opener for the campaign. 2nd half and Flint were
on top but for all the pressure and chances could not find that
vital 3rd goal, after 25 mins Glan Conwy got there chance and took
it through Danny Forber,1 min later Glan Conwy had a pen and Mally
Tidswell slotted home, then on 83 mins Danny Forber got his 2nd
and glans 5th,but again flint refused to give up and on 86 mins
lee acott added his 2nd and flints 3rd but it was all too late.

Rhuddlan Town 2 Meliden 1
In what was a frantic, end to end derby, Town just about came out
on top in a game that really could have gone either way. Meliden
have come up from Div 1 as a quality, hard working side and as you'd
expect from a derby, the pace was chaotic. Town started the brighter
and had a couple of very early chances but once Meliden settled,
they forced an own goal through Kieron Reynolds, although this was
the only foot the youngster put wrong all night. The game was pretty
much end to end with Martin Halewood & Mike Roose having chances
for town and Gaz Walsh causing problems for Meliden. A foul in the
area led to a town penalty, which Mike Roose himself stepped up
to score and level the game with. A stunning strike from Towns Ben
Roberts was matched only by the brilliance of the Meliden custodian
with a top class save, then a wonder strike from Melidens John Atherton
hit the Town post and somehow the teams ended the half level. The
pace didn't slow down in the second half and the introduction of
Melidens Tom Court was having an effect, however a clearance from
a town corner fell to Ben Roberts who smashed home a 25yrd volley
to put town in the driving seat. Meliden pushed for an equaliser
and the outstanding Dion Waller smashed a shot that hit the town
bar and came out while at the other end Halewood had a chance to
finish the game but headed wide. In the end it was a really hard
fought win for town but there is no doubt on this showing that Meliden
will push all the way for the title this year.

League champions Flint carried on from where they left off last
season by getting 3 points, but it was a hard fought encounter by
a Denbigh side looking for a title challenge this season. Denbigh
started off the sharpest and could have been a couple of goals up
by half time, 2nd half the game came to life with chances at either
ends, but a mistake from the Flint defence let in Matthew Toole
to put Denbigh 1 up after 57 mins, but Flint never gave up and after
a change of formation the silkmen drew level through Phil Lloyd
after some good work by Luke Tyson. Then with 6 mins left, Tom Jones,s
challenge on the keeper seen the ball loose in the box for Tom to
slot home the winner.

Rhuddlan Town 5 Llansannan 0
With six players missing from the Town squad, this was always going
to be a difficult start for Town however after a scrappy start to
the game by both teams, town settled quicker and after taking the
lead through Martin Halewood on 16 minutes started to play some
decent football. On the half hour good work from Shaun Jones led
to him making it 2.0 which is how is stood at the break. The second
half saw Town dominate a little more with chances were being created
more regular and when Jon Ridings smashed home a sweet strike on
55 mins, the game was effectively over. Nathan Smith finished the
move off the match with a far post header to make it 4.0, capping
an impressive debut, and former Prestatyn Town striker Gari Thomas
finished the rout in the 80th minute. Special mention must go to
youngsters Smith and Keiron Reynolds for excellent debuts. Despite
the score line, Rhuddlan will and should play better than this though
and certainly Llan will improve particularly at their home ground.
