Wepre Rangers 2 St. Asaph 3 at Central Park
Denbigh - Friday 23rd April 2010
St. Asaph hang on to win the REM Jones cup.
St. Asaph made hard work of an entertaining final, which was
marred by Wepre's Mike Keenan sustaining a broken ankle following
a clumsy challenge.
Dave winter opened the scoring for St Asaph with a header on
six minutes and were looking comfortable when Julian Watson
doubled their lead before half-time.
Fifthteen minutes into the second half St. Asaph's Adam Jones
received a second yellow card and was sent off for a mis-timed
challenge, which resulted in Mike Keenan being stretched off
with a broken ankle.
When Duncan Midgley added a third for St. Asaph
it looked all over for Wepre, but Andy Adams headed in with
eight minutes remaining to give them some hope, with only two
minutes of time remaining Scott Greenhalgh pulled another goal
back for Wepre and for the remaining minutes 10 man St. Asaph
were under the cosh, but survived a few nervy moments to hang
on.
Mike Keenan had sustained a bad break on ankle
and is having an operation on it today.
From everyone involved with the Clwyd League we
all wish Mike a speedy recovery and hope to see him back playing
in the near future.
