North Wales Reserve Premier League

Prestatyn Town Res 6 Rhyl Res 0
Derby days are normally tight, tense affairs with the odd goal splitting the teams but this weeks mini derby was anything but, with both teams admirably playing younger players and football as it should be, however Rhyl found Towns youngster really on top form. As early as the 2nd minute, Towns classy Ben Hoult opened the scoring with a half volley in the box then 15 mins later came the customary Daz Hughes goal and just before the break an excellent strike from midfielder Rhys Lewis sent town in 3.0 to the good. All credit to Rhyl who came out heads high after the break and for long periods gave as good as they got with efforts for Jordan Taylor and Danny Jarratt matching Towns Carl Murray and Rhys Owen's but it was that man Hughes again on 63 mins who really finished the game as a contest. Both teams continued to pass the ball and kept going right to the death when on 88 mins, Nathan Smith battled through to score against his old club with the icing on the cake added by the outstanding Murray in injury time. A good win for Town in Morrell's final game in charge but a great performance by both teams who were a credit to their clubs.

Central Wales FA Under 18's v North Wales Coast FA Under 18's

Central Wales FA 1 North Wales Coast FA 4
An emphatic display for the visitors in last nights representative RAM trophy match ended with a comfortable win with the only complaint being it should have been more! Chris Morrell's youngsters tore into their Central counterparts from the off with the outstanding Jamie Mcdaid a constant threat. Within the first ten minutes Josh Davies, Ben Hoult, Rhys Lewis and Mcdaid all had chances and this theme continued for the half with only Central keeper Adam Hopley keeping the score at 0.0 at the break. It looked like it may be one of those days as Coast failed to break the deadlock however they started the second half just as well and the pressure finally deservedly paid off when in the 48th minute, Mcdaid beat his marker on the wing, drove into the area and smashed across goal for the opener. A second wasnt far behind with Mcdaid again supplying the finish from the edge of the box after great work from Caernarfons Alex Jones & Prestatyns Hoult. With 17 minutes on the clock Central pulled one back despite two great blocks from Costs Bryn Jones, Ryan Clemson pounced on a rebound to give hope of an edgy finish, however on after a scramble in the Central Area on 82 mins, the excellent Davies grabbed a deserved goal. To cap it off man of the match Alex Jones of Abergele reacted first in the final minute to stab home a forth and make the long journey home from Newtown a happy one for the Coast team.

Normac Precision Presidents Cup Round 1

Prestatyn Town Res 6 Holyhead Hotspur Res 2
A five goal salvo from super striker Darren Hughes put paid to a strong Hotspurs team on Tuesday night. Town, again fielding just 4 players over 19 started well and Hughes opened his account on just 9 mins with a crisp side foot finish. 4 minutes later towns Ross Hannon finished a sweeping move to go 2 up however Holyhead had other ideas and a spirited fight back in which they found 2 goals in 8 minutes put them right back in the contest. The pendulum swung the other way minutes before the half when Hughes scored his second to send town off in front. The second half became a blitz with chances falling to Ben Hoult, Rhys Lewis and Ash New but it was Hughes who continued to finish, with a tap in for his third, a stunning turn and shot for his fourth and a neat one on one finish to complete his scoring in the 74th min. Although the scoreline looked comfortable, Hotspurs never gave up and there gung-ho attitude would of have them scored again but for good defending from the excellent Alex Natrass.

N.W. Reserve Premier League

Prestatyn Town Res 4 Llandudno Junction Res 1
Town got back to winning ways with an impressive display on Friday night which really should of seen a bigger scoreline. With only three players oldover 19 in the team, Towns youngsters dominated the game with a great passing display and scored the goals they deserved to in previous games. Chances fell early for Ben Hoult, Carl Murray and Ashley New but it took until the 22nd min for Ian Griffith to open the scoring for the only goal of the half. The second half was a similar story with town starting well and within 2 mins of the restart for Griffith to get his second. A Chris Owens strike for Junction gave them a little hope but then the outstanding Rhys Lewis then took over the scoring with two fantastic strikes to seal the game.

Vale of Clwyd & Conwy Premier Division

Y Glannau 1 Mochdre Sports 7

Mochdre started the game slowly as usual and paid the price, slack
marking by Mochdre gave Glan a chance to have a shot on goal with dom
donelly curling a shot around the defence , Glan 1-0 up, Mochdre then
started to play football, heapo beating the offside trap to put Mochdre
level, from then on the goals just piled up, Danny Jones bagging one,
with heapo getting his second, josh Jones getting a deserved goal, half
time 4-1 to Mochdre.

Second half Mochdre put another three past a plucky Glan with, an own
goal, Danny getting his second and steffan's great dipping header to
beat the keeper, martin the manager then made 3 subs to give him a
chance to look at a couple of new players, peter played some nice
touches and nearly scored on his debut.

Clwyd East Premier League

Sychdyn 2 Caerwys 3

After a humiliating defeat the previous weekend, Caerwys turned things around boosted by the return of Nick Voyle, Neil Greenough and veteran defender Jimmy Griffith. Andy Swann scored one of the quickest goals for Caerwys just after 20 seconds when he dispossessed a slack back pass to a defender and beat the keeper in off the post from 18yds. Playing down the slope, the visitors used their pace against a vulnerable back four and it was no surprise when Neil Greenough burst through to put his side further ahead on 20 mins. Greenough then saw another effort on goal disallowed as the ball looked to be well over the line but the ref was a good distance away. A Greenough corner just before the break was headed home at the far post by Nick Voyle to give his team a well deserved lead. Visiting keeper Sam Gedd making only his second first team appearance in goal in two seasons didn't let his side down and certainly had his work cut out in the second half with a couple of brave saves. Two hotly disputed offside goals put Sychdyn back in the picture but Caerwys held on for the last quarter of the match with Jimmy Griffith commanding everything at the back and at the age of 47 the former League of Wales stalwart showed he is still a class player.

N.W. Reserve Premier League

Prestatyn Town Res 2 Holywell Town res 2
The points were shared tonight in the season opener for both teams at bastion gardens, in what was a fair result with both teams not really doing enough to be worthy of the win. Early uncertainty in the Prestatyn defence led to the dangerous Callum Pierce capitalising with an excellent finish to put Holywell one up in 5 minutes. This however seemed to shake Prestatyn awake and they began to create numerous chances for Ben Hoult, Ian Griffiths and Alec Williams with a smart equaliser eventually coming through Jack Roberts on 16 minutes. Just two minutes later Griffiths put the seasiders in front as Prestatyn bossed the rest of the half. The second half however was a different story as Holywell started stronger, worked harder and were the better team resulting in a somewhat fortuitous but deserved equaliser, when a clearance hit the back of Ryan Petruzzi and looped into the net. For the last twenty minutes however Prestatyn threw the book at Holywell and really should have taken the points, with three guilt edged chances being missed, however overall a point each was a fair result and with the hard work that newly promoted Holywell showed, they'll cause a few upsets this year.

Prestatyn Town Res 5 Penmaenmawr Phoenix 0
The goals flowed tonight in towns final pre-season game before the Friday night league kick off against Holywell in what will certainly be a much tougher test. The speed of the Town forwards caused problems all night for Pen and after only 8 minutes, Alec Williams opened the scoring with an excellent finish which was closely followed by Joe Price heading in from the back post. Town created plenty of chances but had to wait until the 41th minute when the outstanding Rhys Lewis started and finished a move to put town 3 up at the break. Welsh alliance Phoenix continued to work hard but had no real answer for towns constant attacks, the only surprise being the score was not more however just after the break Darren Hughes got his customary goal on 46 minutes and followed that up with his second on 78 to complete the scoring. Chances continued to fall to town with Ben Hoult, Nathan Smith and Carl Murray going close but over all a good run out for town who now start the hard work of trying to emulate Mark Boultons outstanding league record over the past five years with town.

Conwy United 4 Prestatyn Town Res 1
An unexpected Conwy Utd first team proved just to strong for a young Town reserve side and ran out deserved winners at the Morfa tonight. With an average age of just 18, Town worked hard and at times played some good football but Conwy played some really good stuff too and their strength, experience and power saw them run out comfortable winners in the end although the game was in the balance until the last twenty minutes. The Musslemen started well and on 6 mins Paul Cassidy smashed an 'edge of the box' stunning volley to give them the lead however over the next 10 mins, Town grew in confidence which resulted in James Cairns equalising with a classy strike on 22 mins. The match was a good contest with both sides creating chances but town got hit with a killer blow when with 2 mins of the half remaining Jack Higgins went through to finish in really fine style. The second hard proved difficult for the young town side as Conwy's strength began to show however on 64 mins, after Ben Rowley made several good stops in the Town net, a disallowed goal from Towns Daz Hughes was strongly debated and would of levelled the tie. Within 6 minutes Conwy put the game out of reach with a great strike from Chris Quinn and the excellent Ricky Jones completed the scoring with a well deserved goal on 86. Overall a good run out for both teams with the physically stronger Conwy continuing their excellent pre-season.

Prestatyn Town Res 3 Rhos Utd 2
An early Daz Hughes goal for Prestatyn seemed to ironically have the wrong effect on town in what was a poor quality match at Bastion Gardens. The goal after only 4 minutes, after great work from full back Ben Cawley, made town over confident at times and a hard working Rhos side took full advantage. In what was a scrappy game of few chances, Rhos possibly created the better with two or three efforts going close before Steve Chegwin powered in an excellent far post header on 24mins, after good work on the left from Neil Brown. Town then rallied a little and with the pace of towns front three leading to several debatable off-side calls, Carl Murray eventually went through to put town back in front 5 mins before the half. The second half was more of the same with Rhos dogged in their hard work and effort but good work from the excellent Rhys Lewis freed sub Joe Pardoe, who after a great first touch, finished to put the game seemingly beyond doubt. Rhos though weren't finished yet though and the goal of the day came after an excellent team move ending with Brown finishing from six yards on 86 mins.

Prestatyn Town Res 6 Castell Alyn 1
A second half blitz from town saw them run away with this game against their Welsh National Premier League counterparts on weds night, however Castell could have lead from the 6th minute but town keeper Ben Rowley saved a penalty he had initially given away. From that point Town created chance after chance and found Castell keeper Billingsley in amazing form pulling off four or five stunning saves, this coupled with some wayward finishing took the team in at half time with no score. Town moved the ball a little quicker in the second half and within a minute Darren Hughes finished the rebound from his own shot after another good Billingsley save and thus opened the flood gates. A second followed for Hughes in the 48th min, then the game turned into the Darz Hughes show as he completed his hat-trick with a fantastic chip just five minutes later. A forth was to follow when Hughes stepped up to smash home a penalty after he was fouled when through on goal and he completed his scoring for the night by hitting his fifth in the 77th minute. To their credit Castell kept going and an excellent finish from their centre half gave them some consolation but the goal of the night belonged to Rhys Lewis who then hit a 25 yard stunner in the 81st minute. Some good performances from Town including 16 year old Tom Kemp and Danny Birtles and overall a decent pre-season run out for both teams.

Llandyrnog United 3 Prestatyn Town res 2
With six 17 year olds featuring in this game, it was always going to be a big ask for town to compete with Dyrnog's Welsh Alliance first team but the game was in the balance right up to the final whistle to their credit. Dyrny are a strong team and in the first half played some excellent stuff with the dangerous Josh Taylor up front always a threat, indeed he opened the scoring in the 28th min with Phil Parry adding a second 3 minutes later for a 2.0 at half time lead. The 2nd half saw town dominate the ball far more and eventually their pressure told after a 4th goal in 2 games from Daz Hughes brought them back into the game. Taylor then scored Dyrny's third with a brilliant chipped goal but town weren't done and Ash New smashed home from 25yrds to set up a close finish. Chances did fall towns way to equalise but it wasn't to be and Durny held on for an overall deserved win and will be ones to watch for the Alliance two title this year.

MELIDEN PUSH WELSH PREMIER OUTFIT ALL THE WAY

Prestatyn Town 3 – 0 Meliden

Meliden travelled the short distance down to Bastion Road on Sunday to take on a very strong Prestatyn Town outfit. Meliden started the game as huge underdogs against a line up boasting 6 regular welsh premier starters and including goalkeeper Dave Roberts who won two FA Youth Cup winner’s medals with Liverpool in 2006 and 2007 as well as their player/manager Neil Gibson.
As you would expect Prestatyn came out of the blocks strongly and got their passing game going from the first minute they moved the ball around the park nicely. Meliden had their work cut out to win the ball back at times during the opening spell but their determination to prove their ability began to shine and they gradually began to get a foothold in the game. Meliden are known for their flowing football themselves and their moves started piercing small cracks in the Prestatyn back line. The seasiders movement and neat ball play was a pleasure to watch at times and this created the first chance of the game with a quick move down the left and a fantastic whipped ball across the box narrowly missing Steve Harris’ lunging leg at the far post whose momentum clattered into the ever impressive Shaun Williams in goal. It was time for Melidens first real goal opportunity and Martin Halewood who has made a summer move from Rhuddlan Town made a strong run down the left to the Prestatyn touch line then sharply cut inside squaring up the Prestatyn defender who made a small grab of his shirt outside the box, Halewood shrugged this off and continued his run into the box approaching the keeper one on one he appeared to be brought down from behind, there were huge claims for a penalty from the large crowd behind the goal however the referee pulled it back for the initial foul outside the box when surely the penalty was the decision to make. This rattled Prestatyn and soon after James Harper hit the crossbar with a right footed effort! Prestatyn then calmed and finished the half strongly but everything they attempted kept being rebuffed by Meliden’s solid defensive unit, particularly the centre back pairing of John Atherton and Danny Marshall who held the line well in a very intense match, the only chance falling to Fisher-Cooke who whistled one narrowly wide.

0-0 Half Time.

This set alarm bells ringing in the Prestatyn dressing room, surely Meliden couldn’t pull off the giant killing! Neil Gibson decided to bring more cavallery into the game for the 2nd half by bringing on Ross Stephens, David Hayes & club Prestatyn’s WPL record scorer Ian Griffiths, this bringing the amount of first team players in the line up to 9.
The class began to show as Prestatyn pushed for a breakthrough, which came controversially in the 55th minute as Ian Griffiths’ Rooney like runs pieced a hole in the Meliden defence for Neil Gibson to be put though unmarked, he coolly rounded the keeper to score. But Meliden’s defence were aggrieved as it did appear they stepped out in time but no offside was given. The second came not long after with good lead up play resulting in Griffiths getting on the score sheet, further appeals were made for an obstruction but the referee gave the goal.
Meliden then seemed to get over the controversial goals quickly and pressed to get back in the game, this was their most effective period possession wise as they started putting together 10-15 pass moves that were fantastic on the eye, club captain Mark Hughes was becoming a thorn in Prestatyn’s side down the left. They just could not find that killer pass to unlock a chance and they were then hit on the break by welsh U18 international Ben Hoult, his trickery took on 3 players down the right then cut in side and hit a fantastic left footed effort in off the post for the goal of the game. There was time for one more chance for Meliden who put one millimetres wide before the referee blew for full time but on the evidence here Meliden’s manager Gaz Jones will be rubbing his hands together as they more than held there own against a team that lost in the Europa League play off final to Lee Trundle’s Neath last year, off the back of this performance his team will start favourites to take the Clwyd and Vale of Conwy premier title and with the improvements being made at their spiritual home at Ffordd Ty Newydd the future looks extremely bright for Meliden FC.

Prestatyn Town Res 6 Glan Conwy 1
Facing Glan Conwy's first team was always going to be difficult for Towns young reserve team, however goals at the right time made the game look easier than what it was. Town got off to a flier when after only 2 minutes, Alec Williams finished smartly and Darren Hughes continued where he left off last year by adding three more before the half. The second half saw 8 changes for Town with Ashley New and Tom Kemp both scoring spectacular long range efforts. A well worked late set piece goal from a Glan corner gave them some reward for their hard work and no doubt they'll be ready to compete strongly again when the season starts. All in all a good run out for town in Chris Morrell's first game in charge, with certainly stronger tests to come.
